Box Office: 'Tag' Earns $14.6M, 'Superfly Crashes, 'Gotti' Sleeps With Fishes
Posted on Sunday June 17, 2018
There's actually a decent history of adult-skewing studio releases doing well against a given Pixar juggernaut. Wanted earned a stunning $50 million opening weekend in June of 2008 while Wall-E was earning $63m, and Live Free or Die Hard earned a $48m Wed-Sun debut right while Ratatouille was earning $48m over its Fri-Sun frame. Of course, Ocean's 8 complicated the situation.
Friday Box Office: 'Tag's Not It, 'Superfly' Stumbles And 'Gotti' Bombs

The $28 million-budgeted comedy, about five childhood pals who keep their friendship alive by playing a game of cross-country tag for 30 years, attempted to be counterprogramming to the Pixar flick, but the R-rated comedy ran into a Pixar title that was a literal four-quadrant giant. It’s tough to be the adult counterprogramming when adults are going to the animated movie with (or without) their kids.
Box Office: 'Infinity War' Tops 'Titanic,' And 'Avengers 4' May Soar Even Higher
Posted on Friday June 15, 2018
By the end of today, its 50th day of domestic release, Avengers: Infinity War will pass Titanic ($659.3 million, counting the reissues) to become the fourth-biggest domestic grosser of all time. It’ll sit behind Black Panther ($699m), Avatar ($760m) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($937m). No, it won’t sell more tickets in North America than The Avengers ($623m in 2012/$706m adjusted), but that can be a goal for next year.
'Ocean's 8' Swipes Record $16M To Top Friday Box Office

Since it’s been 11 years since Ocean’s Thirteen, this female-led sequel earned the most money but sold the fewest tickets on opening day in the franchise. Its bigger than the $14.7m earned by the first Friday of Ocean’s Twelve back in December of 2004, but lower than the adjusted-for-inflation opening days ($13m raw/$21m adjusted in 2001, $14m/$21m in 2004 and $13m/$17.5m in 2007) of Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen.
