This week's earnings shine spotlight on China growth risk
Posted on Monday October 22, 2018

How large a threat a slowdown in China's economic expansion poses could come into sharp relief as Wynn Resorts Ltd (WYNN.O), chip makers and other companies that rely on China for growth post quarterly score cards. General Motors Co (GM.N) has suffered from shrinking Chinese auto sales and Volvo on Friday warned it expects truck demand in China to fall about 13 percent as the construction industry cools. "The question investors will be asking is not necessarily what the impact is for the current quarter, but, 'if China continues to slow, what will the impact be for the rest of 2018 and 2019?'," said Credit Suisse analyst Patrick Palfrey.

Trump v. Obama: Market Smackdown
Posted on Monday October 22, 2018

CNBC published this story earlier about what has changed since Donald Trump has been president.  Take a look at the article here: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/20/chart-shows-how-everything-has-changed-since-trump-became-president.html?&qsearchterm=trump. What has the stock market done since Trump took office (not elected – took office – you can’t do anything as the President-elect)?  Why is this important?  Because it shows how and if the policies enacted have and will be effective in boosting the economy and thus the market.  Why do I care about the market primarily?  Because that is what I do – that is what I trade.  I am very glad for the millions more employed and higher wages, but what has the market done, and where is it telling me the economy is going? Hmmm.  Before I get hate mail – I know that the market and interest rate positions were very different.  Here are some points for and against each.  First – obviously, President Obama’s presidency started in a rut.  However, it is important to note that the from the time that President Obama got elected to the bottom of the market in March (of roughly 666 on the S&P 500), the market dropped a solid 20%.

Posted on Monday October 22, 2018

Ford is beginning U.S. production of the midsize Ranger pickup for the first time since 2011. The vehicle is bigger than its predecessor, and priced a bit higher to appeal to customers who are demanding more in pickup trucks than they have in the past. Ford is also going to reintroduce the Bronco, which was discontinued in 1996.

Ford’s Q3 Earnings Event: What Key Updates Should We Watch?
Posted on Monday October 22, 2018

It has been more than a year since Jim Hackett took charge as CEO of Ford Motor Company (F) in May 2017. Mark Fields, its CEO back then, was facing criticism for being unable to increase investor confidence while Ford stock was underperforming the broader market and its peers. Since Hackett became CEO, Ford stock has fallen 23% as of October 18, reflecting no positive shift in investor sentiment.
