Posted on Thursday February 08, 2018
Bombardier on Thursday missed out on a contract to provide rail cars for one of the world's biggest light rail systems in Montreal, a project led and financed by its biggest shareholder. France's Alstom and its partner SNC-Lavalin were awarded the contract, worth more than C$1 billion ($793 million), by Quebec's public pension fund following a tender process overseen by an independent committee. The Caisse holds a 30 percent stake in Bombardier's rail business.

Posted on Tuesday January 30, 2018
French trade unions expressed their opposition on Tuesday to last year's agreed tie-up between Alstom (ALSO.PA) and Siemens (SIEGn.DE), saying they feared possible job cuts. Last September, Siemens and Alstom agreed to merge their rail operations, creating a European champion to challenge the advance of China's state-owned CRRC <601766.SS>. The merger has been backed by both the German and French governments, and Alstom said this month it was making good progress on the deal, as it reported higher sales.
Alstom to test automated freight train in the Netherlands
Posted on Monday January 22, 2018
The test will be carried out in the Netherlands in 2018 as part of an agreement with Dutch infrastructure operator ProRail and Rotterdam Rail Feeding (RRF), Alstom said. The train will travel from the Rotterdam Harbour district to CUP Valburg in the eastern part of the Netherlands. Automatic Train Operation (ATO) systems, which automate the driver's tasks while he supervises, have already been introduced on metro systems and can cut energy consumption by making trains run more uniformly and at closer intervals, Alstom said.
