Barrick Gold will look to sell unwanted gold assets to mid-tier gold companies following its merger with Randgold Resources, according to incoming chief executive Mark Bristow. The combined company will look to sell a range of mines including its stake in Australia’s Kalgoorlie and reinvest some of the money in its Nevada operations, Bristow, current CEO of Randgold, said. Barrick will target a range of upcoming mid-tier gold companies such as Endeavour and B2B Gold as buyers for its assets, Mr Bristow said.
Barrick Gold sees potential to expand Tier 1 assets
Posted on Thursday October 25, 2018
Barrick Gold Corp could have nine of the world's top gold mines in a relatively short time under its $6.1 billion acquisition of African miner Randgold Resources Ltd, Barrick Executive Chairman John Thornton said Thursday. Barrick and Randgold will focus on Tier 1 assets, ones that produce 500,000 ounces of gold annually, have a mine life of more than 10 years and are low cost. Barrick's Fourmile project and Turquoise Ridge mine in Nevada have "high potential" to become Tier 1 assets, Thornton said, adding that the company is also optimistic about its Veladero mine in Argentina and Acacia's North Mara mine in Tanzania.

Acacia shares soared as much as 11 percent in London before falling back to close up 7.7 percent. Barrick, which was up 1.6 percent as of 12:29 p.m. in Toronto, has gained 29 percent since the merger was announced.

A senior manager at Acacia Mining pleaded not guilty to charges of corruption and money laundering brought by Tanzanian authorities, the gold miner said on Tuesday. This is the third Acacia Mining employee to be charged by the anti-corruption authorities along with the company's three Tanzanian units and a former staffer. The senior manager, a Tanzanian national, was still in custody as the offence was not eligible for bail and pleaded not guilty to all charges, the company said in a statement.
